The heavens did not forsake them however, though their life took a dramatic turn.

They survived the storm and were washed on to the Bone Reef Peninsula. When they woke up, they found themselves lying in the camp of the Black Bone Pirates.

(The book must mean the Boneblade Sea Fortress on Bone Reef Peninsula. You remember visiting the place a few times before. Maybe it's time for another visit!)

The leader of the Black Bone Pirates, Bruce, found them and took them back to his camp. He was amused by the two boys' story.

Bruce admired their courage, especially considering their youth.

After they fully recovered, Bruce couldn't let them leave; Ardenis and Dingy Larry now knew the secret location of the pirate basement. Bruce chose to adopt them and let them stay there.
