Item : Book: Miraculous Flower

How long has it been since my heart had been stirred in such a way?

I commissioned a small publisher to print my works. The letter came from a young woman. We exchanged countless letters; hers always came in pale pink envelopes that smelled of jasmine.

We talked about everything. We discussed the books I read and, sometimes, my illness. She always wrote thoughtful replies. She sparkled with energy and life.

She said that she wanted to become an adventurer, and reading my stories made her all the more determined to work hard at her training.

When terrible insects appeared in the streets, she became determined to fight them. I told her that she was acting crazy, as the insects spread horrible diseases and were quite dangerous.

"If I can get rid of those nasty insects, you will get better," she wrote.

"If I can drive away your illness, can I meet with you?"

She dazzled me.

To me, she shone like the sun.
I was envious of her freedom,

her ability to walk outside and breathe fresh air
while I was stuck staring out a window.

Meeting seemed impossible.

We lived in different worlds.
I couldn't face her.
Perhaps it was jealousy, but perhaps it was cowardice.

I no longer wanted to think about
her pale pink envelopes.
