L67. Encounter

Item : Book: Endless Sadness

Bug Soldier Paz patrolled the plains of Blue Bay as he did every day.

Suddenly, the piercing scream of a human girl cut through the quiet evening air.

As Paz rushed towards the source of the sound, he saw a vicious monster attacking the girl.

It was too bad, thought Paz, but human lives were a dime a dozen. As he began to walk away, he caught the young woman's eyes.

They were filled with tears of despair and pain.

Bugs only felt disdain toward humans. For centuries, mankind squashed and stepped upon bugs, shrieking whenever a spider appeared.

Branded by these memories, the bugs gave the humans a taste of their own medicine after they took over. It wasn't unusual to see a bug pummeling a human with a fly swatter, taunting it mercilessly.

Paz wanted to be colder to the humans who had caused his breathern to suffer for so long, but he just couldn't be so callous.

As Paz recovered his breath, he realized that his sword was stained with the blue-black blood of the Flying Centipede.

"Thank you," gasped the girl, in shock. "But... why...?"

"Consider it luck." Paz decided to avoid engaging with her further and turned to walk away.

A small hand tugged at the edge of his tunic.

Paz turned back and met the girl's soulful eyes again. He couldn't help but soften instantly.

Paz knew that there was no turning back for the two of them.
