The Black Swamp plunges any traveler who dares go near into eternal night. Evil creatures lurk in the darkness, ready to strike, and the stench of warm, wet death hangs in the air.

Long before I came to this swamp, I learned about the Wisewoods that dwelled there, especially those near the north of the Northwind Peak Fort. These vicious creatures attacked and killed travelers passing through.

With the Wisewoods running rampant in the forest, people used to bid their friends farewell with, "Don't lean on the tree trunk!" instead of "Goodbye," thus reminding them never to trust trees, no matter how innocuous they look.
