To calm him down, you lied and told him you hadn't read it, not even the weird stuff about yak excrement.

"Well, let me do something for you for bringing this back. Bring me a pair of Tactical Officer Trousers, and I'll fortify them for you," offered Smith. You could tell that he believed he could prevent you from spilling the beans by doing you a favor.
