L37. Wisewood Comes Alive!

Up ahead, I discovered those said to be culprits in turning the desert into the Plague Forest-the Wicked Wisewood.

It's not all their fault but the Plague Forest is formed by the diseases spread among the wisewoods.

When I stopped and observed them carefully, I realized with a start that the wisewoods were not infected with ordinary infectious plagues.

From what I could see, it was special plague that only Necromancers can craft.

Yab gasped in surprise as well because she had noticed the same thing.

We decided to hunt the wisewoods in large numbers to verify our hypothesis.

After careful testing, we were certain that the plague had been spread by the Necromancers.

"Who could be so cruel?"asks Yab.

Solemnly I answered: "I don't know."

"I am however sure that this was the act of very depraved Necromancers. And it was not just the act of one, but an entire group of them."

"It happened a long time ago as well, because the Plague Forest did not just come into existence recently."

Yab nodded her agreement.

We sat beside the general merchant and listened with half an ear to the chanting of the wisewoods. The chanting sounds like they were laughing and crying at the same time.

What happened? Why did these Necromancers decide to poison this land so long ago?

A wisewood walked slowly towards me, one step at a time, then slowly said: "It is as you thought, oh great Necromancer."

"It is a curse that your kind placed, a plague that will never die."

"Long ago, you ruled over the skeletons bound to your service by a piece of paper and forced them to war without reason."

"The skeletons eventually fled your cruel rule. They came here to this once fruitful land and founded a kingdom. The Hellhounds followed because they supported the skeletons' mutiny as well."

"When the Necromancers discovered this defection, their rage saw fit that they unleashed a plague that destroyed this paradise and swore to damn this land forever."

"Even today, the curse from long ago still remains. We wisewoods have been victims of the plague for countless generations."

Yab stepped up and asked courteously: "What can we do to make up for this? We would like to free you from the torment. Can you tell us what to do?"
