"Hey kid! Come over here!" the old man roared.

The boy approached him, a hint of fear in his face.

"You seem strong. You have a good head on your shoulders?"

The boy nodded eagerly.

"Want to join the Mafia?" croaked the man.

"Well, I'm up for a challenge, but I don't know what the Mafia is," replied the boy.

"Showing is so much better than telling," said the man with a grin. "See those assassins over there? Show me what you can do."

"I could have taken out a hundred more, and I still wouldn't have broken a sweat," the boy said with a grin. He flexed his muscles, but he couldn't hide a grimace of pain.

His arrogance was beginning to shine through his shy exterior.

"Lacks polish and panache, but not bad, kid. Not bad at all. What's your name?" asked the old man.

"Me? Garneau," the young man said proudly.

"Very well. Welcome to the Mafia, Garneau!"

Later, Garneau discovered he had been talking to an extremely important and influential Mafia boss.
