This was certainly an important event for high society. Practically everyone that matters was there. Lieutenant Jessica looked as radiant as always, Duke Posolain had an affable smile pinned to his face, and Andre looked the part of the bored millionaire. I'd reserved my attention for Jarl, the Commander of the Praetorian Guard.
His pomp and circumstance merely masked his ugly nature. His henchmen looked on from the outskirts of the dance floor, scowling. I knew they must be plotting something.
I picked up two glasses of strong liquor and carefully sidled into their circle. This was a foolhardy act, but I felt I had no other choice.
I approached the bar and sat down next to a young man, Frantik, the duke's son.

After a few cocktails, I found out that the Frank family was funding one of Jarl's schemes. The details of the plan were still foggy; so much was veiled in secrecy. Jarl had it all covered.
However, I overheard a few things that made me curious. Someone discussed a magic circle that glowed with a dark light, and another whispered news of warped space and powerful lightning. The use of such extraordinary magic meant that neither pirates nor common criminals were involved. However, it was clear that this plan centered around Kaslow. But why?
