Chapter 3: It's Tough Being a Butler

I was wrong.

When my young madam opened the door and saw the state I was in, she wiped the blood from my face with trembling hands, burst into tears, and shouted "Ard, you idiot!" She then slipped past me and ran down the hallway and out the front door.

I may have looked a little frightening covered in claw marks, but I felt she was overreacting.

It was getting dark, so I decided to go find her. I asked each person I encountered if they had seen her.

Strangely enough, I found no sign of my young madam after searching several of her favorite haunts.

It was growing darker by the moment, and the places I had yet to search were dangerous.

I hoped that, wherever she was, she was safe.

I searched all along the seashore, but I found nothing.

Suddenly, I spied her shoe half-buried in the sand. There was a carefully folded note inside. It read:

I am hiding in the cave near the beach.

Why did my young madam decide to hide in the cave?

Confused, I suddenly remembered the rumor about the mysterious giant crocodile that had recently made the rounds.
