In an intriguing twist of fate, the presence of Bloody Wasquitoes, who live in Bloodsucker Canyon, alerted the residents of Red Ridge of a place where they could obtain water. They became known as "rain messengers."

The rainy season of Red Ridge was only a few months each year. The plants on the sandy ground would only bloom during that short period of time.

The Bloody Wasquitoes were attracted to this region to collect nectar from flowers; whenever people saw these insects buzzing about, they knew the rainy season was coming and could take measures to collect rainwater.
