L68. Promise Forever

Love between races has always been forbidden, especially during times of war.

Paz and the girl both knew their relationship had to be kept secret. They met alone at the hill near Blue Bay and shared their feelings for each other.

The sound of the waves crashing against the bay always brought comfort to the couple's fragile hearts.

They were incredibly careful, but the girl's brother eventually discovered their affair. He followed his sister to the secret meeting place.

"What is this? How could you?" demanded the brother. The couple had no answer. They remained silent, clinging to one another.

Maybe he was touched by Paz's sincerity, or perhaps he just truly loved his little sister and could see that she, in turn, loved Paz. Regardless of the reason, the brother eventually calmed down. The fire faded from his eyes.

"Run... run somewhere you'll never be found."

"Tomorrow at dawn, I will get her past the other villagers and bring her to the cliff to meet you. I'm entrusting my sister to you. Don't make me regret this decision," he snarled.

When the girl's brother left, the two sat in silence for a moment.

"If you come with me, you'll never see your family again. You'll be ostracized. We'll live in fear," Paz said.

"I am not afraid," she answered.

"How can you love me? I'm an bug!"

"You saved my life. And for what it's worth, I find you to be a very beautiful bug. The way the light plays off your antennae is quite charming." The girl touched Paz's cheek lovingly.

"The sunset is so beautiful tonight," she murmured, leaning into him as she watched the sky turn all shades of sherbet.
