Upon returning to the barracks he had just left, Paz suddenly felt as though he no longer belonged.

"Paz! You traitor! How dare you fraternize with a human woman! You bring shame to the bug race!"

"We have been lying in wait, and we've finally caught the siren."

"Burn her to death! Use the magnifying glass!"

Paz, feeling dizzy with fury, drew his weapon and charged his former comrades. "Give Lizzie back to me!" he cried.

Covered in the blood of his people, Paz finally found the mortally wounded girl deep within the barracks.

"Take me... with you..." Lizzie whispered.

"Paz... I am... done for..." The burning midday sun shone on Lizzie's pained face. "But we're... together... once more."

The weight in Paz's arms suddenly became heavy as lead. The light went out in Lizzie's soulful eyes, and the girl he loved sank into eternal sleep.

Paz stood there, holding Lizzie, in a daze. He held her for hours, maybe days. By the time he returned to his senses, the sky was once again red with the sunset.

"Maybe we can only find happiness in heaven..."

Paz's murmurs echoed around the silent seashore before a tremendous splash drowned them out.

Nobody ever saw Paz or the girl again.
