L36. A Dear Loss

I was awakened by Eric the next day. I walked outside to tell Eric off but I couldn't help screaming as well when I stepped through the door.

I was about to comfort Eric when a big shadow appeared behind me.

I snapped around and then froze. What was this thing? That was the only thought going through my head.
A broken face appeared in front of me. The back of the head was completely missing and its lips were split wide apart. One eye was missing while the other dangled from its socket. Its entire body was covered in a black robe.

Where were the ears and nose? I honestly had no idea.

Before I could pull myself together, the thing started attacking me.

I grabbed Eric's hands and ran. We ran for a long time before stopping.

While Eric tried to gather his breath, I told him what happened. Being a clam person by nature, Eric listened without a word then looked at me intently.

"Really? We are in danger then." Said Eric after getting his breath back.

Suddenly, the monster summoned 5 Striped Gold Tigers. 2 ran at Eric and 3 came at me. I immediately drew my blade, which matched Eric's sword, and started fighting.

Eric ran toward me and saved me from my attacker with the short sword I gave him.

"Go get the head bone. I know why this is happening. Give 'em here!" Eric screamed.

I nodded, ran back to the camp, and retrieved the head bone. When I came back, Eric was defending the attacks as best he could.

He was obviously in a good deal of pain, and sweat ran down his reddened face. We had to survive this.

After finishing off the Striped Gold Tigers, I saw that the monster was about to finish off Eric, who was lying exhausted on the ground.

"Break the head bone!" Eric roared.

I crushed the skull with lightning speed.

Instantly, strong lights burst out of the monster. It gave out a roar then disappeared.

No one knew what happened. Overnight, the engineer and his pupils had all been killed in a terrible way.

Everyone's head had been crushed, spraying brains and blood everywhere. It looked as if they had been struck by a very heavy object.

Wait... A very heavy object? The engineer and his apprentices numbered six in total. Last night, the footsteps stopped after the sixth time. Did the monster stomp them to death?
