You can see the smile on the face of the little man. His smile, however, freezes over his face as he receives the reward.

"Excuse me, did you give me a wrong reward?"

You explain to Clea that the reward in his hand is not known to him until he opens it, and it's currently in a state between yes and no. So it technically counts to be handed over as a reward before he opens it and can be used as one without issue.

In other words, his reward neither exists nor doesn't exist at the same time.
