L79. Love in Troubled Times

Brute force won't work against a giant crocodile. It's much too clever to be merely beaten to death.

I squeezed my arm and sighed. I wasn't fat, but I wasn't exactly a guido juicehead gorilla, either. My skills were mainly limited to butlering. Was I supposed to serve the crocodile tea to death?

Fortunately, I happened to be carrying a Slumber Meat formula that the servants used for hunting. However, I had none of the necessary ingredients, and I was in the middle of nowhere.

I then remembered that Mr. Wyatt was Miss Esvanser's servant. He was quite bright, so I decided to ask for his advice on the matter.

From what you've read so far, do you still think a butler's lot is an easy one?

Being the young madam's punching bag, keeping her happy, fighting toothy beasts - and my back-up tux was all but destroyed from traversing jagged rocks.

I hoped my young madam would be a little less impulsive after this incident.

Maybe she'd learn to consider my feelings a bit more. I'd always felt...

Never mind. I needed to find a Poisonous Leaf from the Twisted Wisewood and the meat of the Parasitized Leopard if I wanted to make Slumber Meat.

When I placed the Slumber Meat on the beach, the giant crocodile lurched ashore, sniffed it, and immediately snapped it up in one bite. It then keeled over, asleep.

I charged into the nearby cave at once and saw my young madam shivering inside. When she saw me, she immediately wrapped her arms around me and burst into tears.

From the looks of it, she had learned her lesson.

"Ard, you're so dense!" she shouted, smacking me hard across the face.

I held my aching cheek as she eyed me, clearly frustrated.
